Ciudad Perdida (English)

12 april 2017 - Santa Marta, Colombia

Snow and I are picked up by the truck to go to the office of the company we booked the trip. We have to wait a long time, but finally we can go, after paying and renting walking sticks. We have two guides with us, a traditional Wigwa and a translator. We have a very small group, just Snow, another Dutch girl and me. We had to drive around 2 hrs before we got to the last stop with signal and then 45 min up the mountain with a beautiful view over Tayrona parc and ocean. We arrive in the small city and there we have lunch. After lunch we start the first day of hiking. Around 4 hrs to get to the first camp. It is hot, it is steep, but the views are overwhelming. We arrive at the camp where we are gonna stay the first night and instead of 4 hrs we hiked 3 hrs. Snow and I decided to sleep in a hammock, Merel gets a bed. After dinner we play some card games and then at 8:30 pm it is time to go to bed. The next day we will have to get up at 5am.
The night in the hammock was a good one. So after breakfast day two of hiking. And again a lot up and some down. I am so glad to have my walking sticks with me. We walk first to a camp where we have lunch and will sleep the last night and then we walked to camp Paraiso. This is the biggest camp and everyone that is doing the 4 days to Ciudad Perdida will be sleeping here. So a lot of people. The legs are starting to get sore a little bit, but it is doable. Again Snow and I choose a hammock to sleep in.
On the third day we go to the lost city. We are again the first ones to go and we have the lost city almost to ourselves. It is tough, to get up the 1200 steps. But the view and the information was so worth it. The only thing was that I was so tired I couldn't even listen that much and eat at lunch. When we started walking again I was feeling sick and had to throw up a little. The guide took my backpack and then I had to do it on my own. But I was feeling a little bit better. I was so happy I saw the camp, that i took a shower and had a nap. Luckely for me, I was feeling so much better on the last day. So again getting up at 5am and start hiking for 6 hrs.
We had an amazing trip, because it was just the 3 of us, we always were the first ones to leave and made us feel we were the only ones. And our Wigwa guide, Alejandrino, was so nice and shared a lot of information with us. And the translator, Abraham, who was doing this trip 16 days in a row, was also really nice and shared a lot. This is what made the trip so worth it!
